Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor, journalist and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began as reporter for TV and radio working in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was a reporter for the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was named general correspondent by NBC News a year later. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was promoted to chief congressional reporter. In 1992, she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 she became the chief foreign affairs correspondent in NBC News. Mitchell was on the panel of the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She was on the panel in the debates for president in 1988, between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, during both the administrations of Ronald Reagan. She covered many notable stories including arms control, tax reforms to the budget and also the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits as part of the president Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev.
